Lt. Col. Leonard Peterson Dies In Action In Italy

Joined Army 20 Years Ago – Served With Mountain Troops – Volunteered For Overseas Duty
Mrs. Louis Vieths of Deephaven and Wayzata, received the sad news on March 23rd that her brother, Lt. Col. Leonard Peterson, formerly of Farmington died from fatal wounds, March 8th while in combat with the 10th Mountain Division Special troops in Italy.
He is the son of the late Jens Petersen, also of Farmington. Besides his sister he is survived by his wife who lives in North Dakota.
Leonard has been in the army for the past 20 years and only last August returned from Active duty in New Guinea and was ordered to report to a new assignment, upon his own request in December 1944. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after arriving in Italy.
He has many friends in this community where he grew to young manhood who regret to hear of his sacrificial death.
